Record number of applicants apply to join dedicated Sussex Search & Rescue Team

To maintain its search capabilities and aid Sussex Police in locating and returning vulnerable, missing persons to their families, Sussex Search & Rescue ‘SusSAR’ recently embarked on a rigorous recruitment drive.

The initiative sought individuals with unwavering dedication, who were prepared to sacrifice their time and comfort to assist in potentially life-saving callouts; individuals who are willing to rise at three o’clock in the morning, braving storms and uncertainties, to search for someone they’ve probably never met…

With an unprecedented 144 applicants looking to contribute actively to the welfare and safety of their communities, the charity faces the challenging task of selecting the most suitable candidates from this pool of amazing volunteers.

The charity prides itself on its members who share a passion for humanitarian service and a readiness to answer the call, no matter the hour nor the conditions. In joining SusSAR, volunteers not only contribute to their community but also embody the spirit of compassion and solidarity that defines the team’s mission.

Operating as volunteers, SusSAR relies heavily on the generosity of its members and donors to maintain its unwavering commitment to bring the missing home. This commitment to callouts not only demands time but also financial resources for personal and team equipment, transportation, and training, making the need for dedicated volunteers and sponsors pivotal in discharging our duty as the Sussex Police Dedicated Search Resource.

If you, or an organisation you are a member of, is able to offer financial support, or provide equipment to help keep our operations going, then please follow the donate link on our website, or get in touch with us directly via our contact page.
