Become a Volunteer Search Technician
Sussex Search and Rescue (SusSAR) will be recruiting dedicated and motivated individuals to join our team of volunteer Search Technicians. This is your opportunity to make a real difference in your community by helping locate vulnerable missing people across Sussex.
Who We Are
Sussex Search and Rescue is the primary voluntary resource used by Sussex Police to search for vulnerable missing persons. We are a highly trained, professional team made up entirely of volunteers who give their time to support emergency services, day or night, in all weather conditions.
What You’ll Do
As a Search Technician, you will:

Take part in coordinated searches across urban, rural, and coastal environments

Train in specialised skills such as navigation, communications, search methods, and casualty care
-
Work as part of a disciplined, supportive team
-
Be available for callouts at any time of day or night (with flexibility around your personal commitments)
What We’re Looking For
You don’t need previous experience—just the right attitude. We welcome applicants who are:

Reliable, calm, and committed

Physically able to search for extended periods

Willing to train regularly (typically evenings and some weekends)

Motivated by helping others in times of crisis
