Brighton and Hove City Council Donation
It was with great surprise and pleasure that the team recently received a fantastic donation of £5000 from Brighton and Hove City Council.
This was in recognition of the hard work and time given by our members delivering PPE and laptops across the Brighton and Hove area (To date over 1000000 items)
The funds will be allocated to provide summer hi vis wear for all our team members and to boost our funds, which have been severely depleted by the Covid crisis. The cancellation of sporting events, such as the Brighton Marathon, has caused an almost complete loss of income during the normally busy summer months.
Fire extinguishers serviced
We would like to show our gratitude to Coastline Fire Protection Ltd for servicing our fire extinguishers for free.
New Stretcher Purchased
We have recently been fortunate enough to be able to purchase a new Alpine Lite stretcher from SAR-products.com based in Oldham Lancs, whom we would like to thank for managing to dispatch the stretcher to us during COVID-19.
The stretcher was purchased with funds having been generously donated to our charity, for which we are always grateful.
The new stretcher will allow us to evacuate a casualty over a longer distance with less stress on our team members.
PPE Deliveries during Covid 19 crisis
As part of the Sussex Community Resilience Forum the team offered to assist once the severity of the Covid crisis became apparent. Team members have been involved in transporting PPE, along with other essential items, throughout the Brighton and Hove and Mid Sussex areas.
By 24th June 2020 the team had delivered over 1 million items of PPE. We have also delivered laptops within the Brighton and Hove area to help disadvantaged pupils study whilst the schools are closed.
The above image shows the work we have done during 2019.
We were much busier in 2019 in all areas, with our callouts increasing to almost one a week and our activities and training sessions also increasing. Team members donated nearly 8000 hours in 2019, an increase of 2000 hours.
This, however, has increased our costs but has also increased the value we provide to the police and our commmunities.
Lewes Search December 2019
In December 2019 the team were involved in a large search for a missing London Firefighter.
This search meant the team was thrust into the national spotlight in a way we had not experienced before.
During the search members of our team spent 386 hours searching and our search managers liaised with Sussex Police (our usual search partners), London Fire Brigade, East Sussex Fire and Rescue service, HM Coastguard, The Sussex Community Search Team, as well as members of the family and other members of the public.
The publicity we received from this search meant that our social media channels were receiving massive increases in page views and other activity. We have also received donations of around £2000 and donations through our Amazon Smile wish list. We are humbled at the support of the public and will ensure the donations are used to help us to improve the service we give to the people of Sussex and beyond. We would like to thank everybody who has donated for their support.
During a search in the Billingshurst area in October 2018 we worked very closely with not only Sussex Police, but also West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.
Also with us on every search are our fellow charity, Search Dogs Sussex. You can find their website here.
We hope to develop this joint working - training and working alongside H.M. Coastguard, the Fire Service and others.
